CA SALES TAX
Anaheim's 7.750% is California's 7.250% statewide base plus the single 0.500% district tax that applies across Orange County. The city has not added a district tax of its own, which is why its rate and the county baseline are the same number.
Several Orange County cities have gone the other way. Santa Ana, Westminster, Seal Beach and Los Alamitos are all at 9.250%; Garden Grove, Buena Park, Stanton, Placentia, La Palma, La Habra and Fountain Valley are at 8.750%. Anaheim shares a border with several of them.
For a visitor that is mostly invisible. For anyone making a large purchase it is worth knowing that driving from Anaheim into Santa Ana adds 1.500% to the same transaction.
CA SALES TAX
Anaheim's tourist core — the theme parks, the convention centre and the surrounding hotels — sits inside the Anaheim city limits and is taxed at the ordinary 7.750% city rate. There is no separate resort-area sales tax.
Hotel bills are a different matter. Transient occupancy tax is a separate levy on lodging and is not part of the sales tax rate on this page; a hotel folio can therefore show a percentage that looks nothing like 7.750%.
NEARBY RATES
Anaheim borders several cities with district taxes of their own. These are the published rates nearby — the spread is wider than the short distances suggest.
